About Dwain McDonald, Former DPD UK CEO

Dwain McDonald joined delivery company DPD UK (formerly Parceline) in 1988 as a 22-year-old sales executive and worked his way up to become CEO in 2008.

An innovative and passionate business leader, he was the driving force behind the company’s phenomenal transformation during the last 12 years from a middle of the pack B2B carrier to undisputed Number 1 in the home delivery market. The company doubled in size since 2013 – notched up annual sales of £1.9bn in 2020, and is aiming to hit £2.4bn turnover by 2025. DPD became the ‘go-to’ carrier for high profile retailers who value a flexible and personalised doorstep experience.

DPD employed 22,000 people, operated more than 8,000 vehicles from 84 depots and delivered nearly 300 million parcels a year.

Dwain’s vision and passion for leading-edge innovation during his time as CEO brought to life a series of market-disrupting firsts, including:

  • Predict – the first one-hour delivery window.
  • FollowMyParcel – the first real-time driver tracking service.
  • Precise – the first delivery service that allowed customers to choose their own delivery window.
  • The YourDPD app – offered unrivalled levels of choice and control to its 9 million users.

DPD UK was also at the forefront of the drive for greener and more sustainable deliveries. In 2018, it opened the UK’s first all-electric parcel depots in Westminster and Shoreditch, and deployed a fleet of innovative zero-emission vehicles.

DPD UK: a serial award winner

Under Dwain’s leadership, DPD won over 50 industry awards during the last 11 years.

In 2017, Dwain McDonald was named ‘Tech Pioneer of the Year’ by Retail Week.

Dwain is also the author of ‘This is Us and this is how we roll’, an illustrated 143-page book where he shares his vision, describes the unique DPD UK culture whilst he was CEO, and gives his take on leadership and the importance of brand. In February 2021, the hugely popular This Is Us Book And This Is How We Roll was updated and issued to all 22,000 members of DPD.

A lifelong Stoke City FC supporter, Dwain has been married to Diane for 32 years and the couple have three children.
