A brand to be proud of

During Dwain MacDonald’s time as UK CEO, DPD UK became the country’s fastest-growing parcel delivery company and the preferred choice of the nation’s biggest and best-known online retailers.

During the past 12 years, DPD UK grew faster than any other company in its market by putting the customer at the heart of everything it did. Several tech innovations, award-winning industry firsts and a firm focus on the environment also made it the nation’s favourite delivery company.

In 2020, DPD celebrated its golden anniversary – 50 years in the UK – and by 2025 it aims to have 93 depots, five hubs and sales of £2.4bn.

UK’s industry firsts

During Dwain’s leadership, innovation and technology were at the heart of DPD’s services and included:

  • Predict – the UK’s first one-hour delivery window.
  • FollowMyParcel – the first real-time driver tracking service.
  • Precise – the first delivery service that allowed customers to choose their own delivery window.
  • The YourDPD app – the first fully integrated delivery app, which grew to more than 9 million users.

A vision for a greener economy

Since 2010, the 1-2-3 strategy had determined every decision taken in the boardroom and beyond, and in 2020 a fourth step was added to the strategy, which became:

  1. Deliver the best service money can buy,
  2. Use the best technology available,
  3. Recruit, retain and develop the most customer-centric people,
  4. Be the UK’s leader in sustainable delivery.

Going green was DPD UK’s biggest mission to date, they rolled out electric vehicles (EVs) more quickly than before. This investment supported the 25-25-25 vision and in 2020, they launched a comprehensive and dedicated website – DPD Green. There is even a ‘live stats’ panel where everyone can see how much CO2 DPD is saving.

The 25-25-25 green vision was developed to help DPD UK create a more sustainable planet for the next generation. In fact, DPD UK has:

  • Opened the UK’s first 4 all-electric depots (3 in London and 1 in Hull)
  • More than 800 electric vehicles at 84 depots nationwide
  • Developed its own zero-emissions electric-assist cargo bike – the EAV P1
  • Invested £52,000 in electric vehicle home chargers for DPD drivers
  • Donated more than £200,000 through the innovative eco fund
